The Midwest's Largest Energy Purchasing Pool

Gas Program

Regions Served

The IEC is committed to bringing natural gas savings to all the members in the state. Currently the utility service areas that we have been able to identify quantifiable savings are:

Nicor
Peoples
North Shore
Illinois Power

The other utilities in the state currently have less than favorable opportunities because of any of the following reasons.

Pipeline constraints issues. There is not enough interstate pipeline capacity or the capacity is restricted. Adequate capacity is necessary to allow members the flexibility they need to purchase third party gas.
The host utility has restrictive rules inhibiting your choice.
The host utility already has such low rates that the IEC cannot beat them.

The host utility may have imposed so much risk in the form of potential penalties on a member that there is very little incentive to switch.

The IEC will work towards creating changes at the utility and regulatory level that in time will help to break down some of these barriers. As progress is made the IEC will make those members not currently eligible aware of them. Understand though that these will take time.

Price
Each month the IEC will post here the cost per therm that a member can expect to see on their invoice. Utility costs will be billed as a separate line item on your PES invoice. The cost is for telemetered clients only. Those members on alternate utility programs Customer Select, Choices for You or Rider 25 may be different.
